Flower for Toussaint
Dedicated To

When world history is no longer dominated by a racist Eurocentric perspective, Toussaint L'Ouverture will be recognized as a more important figure than Napoleon Bonaparte. He was a cross between Frederick Douglas and the Vietnamese General Giap. He overcame the multiple psychological traumas of slavery to become the leader of an unprecedented army that ultimately defeated Napoleon's army. Before the final victory, he was tricked into prison because he believed that France would honor it's commitment to allow Hispaniola to become an autonomous region of the empire. This dishonorable act by Napoleon paved the way for another hero, who was more militant and less trusting to preside over the final act of the historical event (the military victory of the self-liberated Haitian slaves in 1804) that ultimately caused the abolition of slavery as a prominent economic system throughout the world.
